476 AD: Last glimpses in the East

Having barely survived the collapse of the empire in the West and now reduced to a mere mercenary, centurion Marcus Valerius Eurus is pushed back to a distant fortress on the edge of the Eastern Empire, trying to defend the last legitimate Augusta Familia that despite its decline represents what remains of Rome. It will be from the gloomy fortress of Papyrius that Marcus will move to the rescue, striving to reconquer an empire at the mercy of barbarians and usurpers: he will fight with the disenchantment of the mercenary, surrounded by the betrayal and unreliability of his own commanders, but in the tragedy of the twilight of Rome, he will rediscover in the courage of his Empress the pride of fighting for Rome... Or for what remains of it.

481 AD: Western Darkness

Sent by his empress at the head of a handful of clibanarii to represent the Empire for the coronation of a very young barbarian king, Marcus finds back the land he left as a boy to fight in the name of Rome against the barbarians who had submerged it. Now that Rome is no more, the last centurion in the West finds himself protecting a pagan sovereign just fifteen years old but wrapped in a mystical aura of power and charisma that the Christian hierarchies themselves recognize as a light in the darkness that has now fallen over the West. In a world that represents the opposite of the golden and decadent Empire in the East, Marcus will rediscover his family and his loved ones, but also the reasons why he had left them behind. But above all, he will discover how the pitfalls of the Frankish court are no less lethal than those of Constantinople.

484 AD: Roads of the Empire

Charged by the young King Clovis to lead his embassy to the Empire with the ambitious aim of being recognized as a friend and ally of Rome in the now distant Gaul, Marcus takes the beautiful and ambitious princess of the Franks with him and finds back his Empress, to which he is bound by a complicated relationship of loyalty, affection and distrust. Aelia Ariadne is increasingly surrounded by declared enemies and hidden traitors, even in the narrowest circle of her own family; to defend herself, she will have to rely once more on her trusty western centurion, but in doing so she will risk losing forever not only his affection for her, but also his respect. And while Marcus will again do his duty to the fullest against the enemies of the Empire, the Augusta will discover that the haughty Teuton princess led by him to court could represent a threat more dangerous than ever.

485 AD: Rise of a Kingdom

Less than five years of his coronation, the twenty-year-old king of the Franks is ready to begin his conquests, with the support of the Church and the Empire, but above all of a united people and the army reorganized by his marshal Marcus Valerius. The enemy to be fought is that same Syagrius who on the day of his coronation had tried to humiliate him in front of his peers... And King Clovis is not a man to forget the offenses he suffered. Marcus will be at the head of the army sent to conquer the Roman cities of Gaul, and will once again find himself struggling with his conscience, tormented by the idea of having to fight against his own people and even against his own family. But what might have seemed a trivial conflict between two of Rome's many heirs in the West, will prove to be a decisive clash for the fate not only of Gaul, but of the whole of Europe.

487 AD: The Sword on the Stone

Having landed in Britannia under a false name in search of his brother who betrayed him, Marcus almost immediately finds himself embroiled in the complex events of an island that has lost its Pendragon right in the middle of a Saxon invasion. What to Marcus was simply a lost province of the empire turns out to be a complex world where street bandits, petty kings, pagan priestesses and quarrelsome duces compete for power. Of all, only the old Merlin of Britannia has a precise plan, but not even he knows how to put it into practice. But Marcus, who calls himself Bedivero for not being recognized as King Clovis's marshal, carries with him Carnwennan, late Uther’s sword. And when the Merlin places the sword of the last Pendragon on the heel stone of the Stone Circle, the fate of Britain will be fulfilled.
